MSK calls it a day
Andhra's first-ever international cricketer to play Tests and one-dayers, M. S. K. Prasad, called it a day after 14 years of firstclass cricket. For someone who was always rated high but never got his due because of a variety of factors, MSK, as he popularly known in cricketing circles, felt it was time to leave the scene and give the young talent a chance.
His six Tests and 17 onedayers between 1999 and 2000 included a full-tour to Australia.
Prasad, 33, was content with what he had achieved without being flamboyant. He belonged to the old school, being a wicketkeeper first and then a batsman.
"Now, the whole concept has changed with the wicketkeeper being more of an all-rounder with greater emphasis on batting," said the former India stumper, happily married to Dr. Prasanthi, his classmate since Standard I and his inspiration.
"I must thank N. Venkat Rao Sir (former ACA secretary) for all the support he extended to me in my early days," he said.
"Syed Kirmani was my role model in wicket-keeping and Sachin Tendulkar in batting," says the Deputy Manager in BDL.
Now in the role of Director of Operations, ACA Academy in Visakhapatnam, MSK is all set to enter the second innings of his career and do justice as desired by the ACA secretary.
He thanked the ACA for naming one of the gates at the Vizag Stadium after him. "That is a huge honour," he concluded.
